When I was growing up, my family had a vacation house in Hollywood, Maryland, which we shared with our cousins. The property was beautifully located, offering goregeous views of the Patuxent River. It was a truly rural setting—very rural, in fact. No TVs, no internet (it didn't exist yet), barely a phone connection. My cousins and I would spend our time riding our bikes along the country backroads and fearlessly exploring unsupervised construction sites. As an aspiring architect, I viewd this as early jobsite training for me. Looking back, I don't think our parents ever realized just how far we ventured!
